Wow, very nice (November 13, 2012 | 01:58pm)
Laurence, the shot on the dock is great. I'm curious about how the faces are lit so well with the subjects' backs to the primary light. Is it the light bounce from the light colored dock? Also when you're shooting something like this, are you aiming for at least, what, 80mm so that you get the easy bokeh and some compression on the background? As I shoot more environmental and event photos of kids these types of technical tips are becoming more relevant. Thank You, A nice set, as always. (November 15, 2012 | 11:21am)
@Bill: There was plenty of light bouncing off of the dock. The light was also diffused by the clouds and was low-contrast overall, which helped. I used my 70-200mm for this shot, probably around 150mm. (November 15, 2012 | 11:28am)
